St Peters - the only team that can stop St Philips?

How quickly things can turn around in a season! Your St Peters Parish cricket team is on an impressive winning streak, following a tough start to the season where they won only one from five. Since the 22nd of December, St Peters has defeated St Matthews Baulkham Hills, St James Croydon, Bethel Mar Thoma, and most recently, Turramurra Uniting.

And not just any mere victories. Three of those were annihilations by more than 140 runs at least, and against St James, a miracle one-wicket victory, where the last pair of batsmen held their nerve to score the final 20 runs against a highly-fancied bowling attack.

There have been some brilliant individual performances in this time period. Matthew Griffin has smashed another two centuries, Cormac McCaughan scored his first ever century against Turramurra to back up his very impressive bowling this season. Mark Yum fired his way back into form with a shell-breaking 66 against Bethel Mar. And there have been numerous players putting their bodies on the line for the team, such as Oistin McCaughan dislocating his finger to stop a boundary.

As things are, St Peters sit in 2nd position on 47 points, behind only St Philip's Turramurra South, who have been unbeaten since round 1. It appears only St Peters has the firepower to unseat them, with 4 of their players in the top 10 of the championship players points (Matt Griffin, Colm, Cormac and John McCaughan).

As Fr Bill always insists, it is a team effort 'FOR THE GLORY OF GOD AND THE HONOUR OF ST PETER!!'

Next game is against the 3rd placed Toongabbie Baptist (41 points), who are the only team to have trounced St Peters...but that was early in the season.
