Missionaries of Charity is a Roman Catholic religious congregation established in 1950 by Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Around the world care for the poor and disposessed, including refugees, the mentally ill, sick and abandoned children, lepers, people with AIDS, the aged, and convalescent. They have schools run by volunteers to educate street children. The convent at 27 High Holborn St is the mother-house for the Pacific region of this famous international congregation.

In Surry Hills the Sisters run a Sunday school for children who are preparing to receive the Sacraments, such as Holy Communion or Confirmation. In order to enrol, please contact the Missionaries of Charity on 9318 2881. The Sisters also visit the sick and housebound in the local area. Their latest initative is a 'soup kitchen' which operates Monday to Friday mid-morning.
